NPDF OFFICIALS ATTEND POLICE DEDICATION IN GENOA ITALY

On March 2, 2009, NPDF President Jack Holder and Executive Director Joseph Occhipinti presented a "VALOR AWARD" to the family of slain Italian State Police Officer Daniele Macciantelli killed in the line of duty in September 2008. The officer was responding to a domestic violence call when he was fatally stabbed by the suspect. The dedication ceremonies included the renaming of a soccer field in the memory of Officer Macciantelli and a special concert by the Italian State Police Band. Director Occhipinti told the audience that Officer Macciantelli was a real life hero who made the ultimate sacrifice and will never be forgotten by the law enforcement community, both in the United States and Italy.   Read more

I recently appeared on CBS news regarding the proposed NJ legislation authorizing the medical use of marijuana. It is compelling legislation and we agree that no person should suffer from a life debilitating illness. However, this legislation will create an enforcement nightmare for the police. We will see a serious increase of prescription fraud that will result into a billion dollar industry similar to what we have seen with the illegal use of pain killers. There should be federal legislation introduced addressing this issue with clear cut safeguards and guidelines to prevent its misuse.

NPDF Succeeds before the Supreme Court
by PO Mike Barry
NPDF Secretary

On June 26th, 2008 the United States Supreme Court handed down a landmark decision in the case of Washington DC, et al. vs. Heller. The NPDF filed an Amicus or "Friend of the Court" brief in this case arguing that the right to own a handgun in one's own home was fundamental to American liberty and was clearly codified, unambiguously, in the Second Amendment.
