TRUE BLUE
Reviewed by NPDF Secretary Mike Barry
True Blue is the story of former Port Authority and New York City Police Officer Joe Sanchez. A hard hitting, 'in your face' story of combat from the jungles of Viet Nam to combat in the jungles of the notorious Port Authority Bus Terminal on 42nd street and in the boiling cauldron of upper and lower Manhattan. On of the few Latino authors to come to the forefront, Joe Sanchez tells a riveting story of an honest cop up against a corrupt system that wanted nothing more than to put this straight-laced centurion in jail, while protecting a corrupt boss. Sanchez eventually went to jail, but not as an inmate. He rose above adversity to become a Correction Officer at Sing-Sing and now a highly respected author.
Though disabled by a line-of-duty injury, Joe drove three hours to meet me and Executive Director Joe Occhipinti in Fort Lauderdale, Florida when he learned we would be presenting the NPDF's Safe Cop Award to a tipster who gave information that led to the arrest of a cop killer. I liked him as soon as I met him. He's a cops cop and a 'stand up' guy in addition to being a fine author. I encourage all NPDF members to buy 'True Blue'; you won't be able to put it down.
