MEDICAL SUPPORT SERVICES
The NPDF provides free medical support services to all law enforcement personnel who experience a job related illness and disability. There is a toll free number
(888-SAFE COP) wherein any officer can speak to an approved NPDF Medical Officer or Attorney for advice or referral to a specialist or program.
Over the years, the NPDF has experienced an increase in requests from law enforcement personnel who are suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder attributed to the stress of police work. The NPDF has a group of trained, licensed psychologists and physicians who specialize in this disorder and have been successful in helping officers in distress. When an officer becomes completely disabled, the NPDF legal staff will provide assistance in helping the officer apply for disability benefits, retirement or social security benefits.
The success of this NPDF program is credited by the fact our medical and legal staff assures complete confidentiality to the officer and provides viable options and counseling to the disabled officer. In the past, many police officers have been hesitant to approach their respective departments in order to request medical/ psychological help for fear of it impacting their careers negatively. The confidentiality of the NPDF's Medical Support Services guards against that.
Important Information for NPDF Members who have headaches or face pain
If you returned from military service in Afghanistan or Iraq and suffer from persistent headaches or facial pain we have great news.
Dr. Ira Klemons, a long time friend and NPDF supporter is Director of the Center for Headaches and Facial Pain, in South Amboy, N.J. Patients come to him from all over the United States and around the world when all else fails to relieve their painful condition. As a special service to the National Police Defense Foundation, he has offered to treat veterans who were injured in Iraq or Afghanistan at little or no personal cost. Please visit www.headaches.com and call his office to determine whether you qualify. Of course, all of our members and their families and friends who suffer from these conditions should visit the Center's website. Based on thirty years of experience with Dr. Klemons, I can tell you emphatically that you will be well treated.
LEGAL SUPPORT SERVICES
The NPDF has also earned a sterling reputation within the law enforcement community for successfully exposing many injustices against law enforcement, many of which have profiled on national news shows such as 60 Minutes, Dateline, Fox News Network, CNN , among others. Today, organized crime and common street criminals have learned how to manipulate the criminal justice system by making fabricated allegations of misconduct against dedicated law enforcement officers. As a result, the NPDF's legal and investigative staffs have established criteria to effectively investigate these allegations. When it appears that a grave injustice has been perpetrated against an officer, the NPDF will establish a legal defense fund wherein 100% of the donations raised are earmarked for the officer's defense. There is free legal consultation to any NPDF member or officer experiencing a job related problem.
